Norm Eaton
November 2024
West Georgia Track Club member, Norm Eaton, has been running for over 30 years. He says that he runs because it’s a time to be alone in your thoughts. Every run is a challenge to push yourself, and an opportunity to be part of a community.
Originally from Brawley, California, Norm is retired from the Army and currently works in the emergency room at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton. Norm’s running journey began when he was in high school, but it wasn’t until later in 1996 that he ran his first 10K, and he just kept going! “I have now been running for over 30 years…so I’ve completed a lot of runs,” he jokes. “I’ve done eight marathons, at least 15 half marathons, and numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, and charity runs.” His favorite race so far, which he also counts as his greatest running accomplishment, has been the marathon in Athens, Greece, site of the original marathon, with all the sites and history, and thinking about how he was running in the footsteps of ancient Greek warriors and athletes.
So what’s on the horizon for Norm? He says that his goals include trying a 50K and to run the London or Berlin marathon.
His favorite place to run is on The Carrollton Greenbelt, particularly the Hobbs Farm portion. He is also a regular WGTC Group Run attendee where the group enjoys his fun and interesting on-the-run anecdotes. He says that community is why he joined West Georgia Track Club. “I really love a sense of community, of teamwork, helping each other with our goals, and not only running, but also having fun together.” He continues, “I feel very fortunate to have found this wonderful group of people.”
Come run with Norm and other members of WGTC at our next group run! Check out our Monthly Calendar for details.
